Meet the Del Zorros!

The Del Zorros Bio:

We're The Del Zorros, twin brothers who are songwriters, musicians, and artists. We've been writing and performing our songs since we were kids. On our recordings we play all of the instruments and sing all of the parts ourselves.

We also produce all of our own music videos, often featuring our own artwork as well. Our show may best be described as The Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and The Smothers Brothers all rolled into one.

We've poured our hearts and souls into doing what we love, and we've worked hard to establish a reputation for connecting with our audiences by emphasizing love and humor and hope and joy in our music and performances.

We are located in the US and the UK. We have a fabulous story to tell, and it's all in the music... thanks for listening!

Best Wishes, Stede & Monty Del Zorro

Meet the Jellybricks!

The Jellybricks burst onto the scene in 1997 with the release of their debut album Kinky Boot Beast. Their first single, “Who is God” immediately became a hit on local radio stations and soon found its way onto the national airwaves. Within weeks, they found themselves sharing the stage with notable acts including Live, Goo Goo Dolls, and Fuel, and over the years have appeared with the likes of Barenaked Ladies and Fountains of Wayne.

With their second album, 1999’s Soapopera, The Jellybricks again found themselves on the airwaves with the singles “Speechless” and “Prerequisite Rocker,” and hit the road once more in support of the album. Songs from Soapopera found their way onto the soundtracks of the indie movies Man Made and Working Stiff, as well as onto numerous compilations.

On their third album, Power This, the band continued to expand their rocking power-pop sound. While The Jellybricks have always written their songs collaboratively, guitarist Bryce Connor pitched in his first lead vocal performances, providing a gruffer, edgier compliment to lead vocalist Larry Kennedy’s slick pop tunes. Power This garnered the ‘bricks a four-star review from All Music Guide.
In between albums, The Jellybricks have maintained a busy schedule, bringing their frenetic live show to fans across the US, including several buzzed-about shows at the annual International Pop Overthrow festivals in Los Angeles and New York. They’ve also released three Christmas songs (one co-written with Jeffrey Gaines) and have recorded material appearing on numerous compilation and tribute CDs, including the widely-publicized Coming Up! tribute to the music of Paul McCartney in 2001.

With the release of 2008's Goodnight to Everyone, The Jellybricks garnered early press from Rolling Stone, which called their video for the single “Ruin Us” “the first truly clever viral music video of 2009.” This led to a successful AAA/non-comm radio campaign, with the band hitting the road hard in support of the record, touring up and down the East coast, and gaining more supporters with every venue they played. It was during this time that the band wrote the songs that would appear on Suckers.

2012 brings the fifth release from indie-rock band The Jellybricks (Pop Detective/ Primitive records). Suckers is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2008’s Goodnight to Everyone. Counter to their usual process, the ‘Bricks headed straight for the studio to record the new tunes before ever performing them in front of an audience. Recording began in the spring of 2011, and wrapped up in September, producing a total of five brand new songs and two bonus tracks. In a pre-release promotion for the EP, the songs received over 1,500 plays in the first three days, and led to a strong response in pre-sale orders. Based on fan feedback, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” was released as the first single from Suckers on radio, beginning the first week of February 2012.

Suckers breaks from the polished power-pop sound The Jellybricks have perfected over the years, "Our results were some of the most spontaneous creations of our career." notes Larry Kennedy. “Suckers is one of the fastest, bare-bones records we’ve made, with mostly first-take live performances.” and takes on a grittier, rock ‘n’ roll edge, although the band’s affinity for tight harmonies remains as strong as ever. This sound is most evident on “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide”, as well as “Sold” and “Dead End Girl”. Rounding out the release, “Their Own Way” and “Someone Else” also benefit from the edgier sound and production. As always, the contrast between hard and soft is the perfect embodiment of the band’s name.

Larry Kennedy — guitar, vocals
Garrick Chow — bass guitar, vocals
Bryce Connor — guitar, vocals
Tom Kristich — drums, vocals

The Jellybricks report that they've finished recording a sixth album and we will have more details when it is available!

Please welcome Vegas With Randolph!

The first featured band on Two Tunes Tuesday is Virginia’s own Vegas With Randolph. I first became acquainted with their work a few years ago and have enjoyed watching their fan base grow as their music has found new ears, and soon there will be new music for our ears!

Who are Vegas With Randolph?

Vegas with Randolph’s music has been called “ebullient, unabashed power pop”, “thinking man's party music,” and “blissful pop songwriting at its finest” and their music has been compared to Fastball, Sloan, and Fountains of Wayne. With the release of their second CD “Above The Blue”, VWR returned with what Mike Lidskin called "Sheer Powerpop Perfection"!

At the nucleus of VWR is the songwriting partnership of John Ratts and Eric Kern. Starting in high school in their mid-western hometown, the duo has penned hundreds of songs over the last several years, many of which have received radio airplay, use in TV and video, compilation CD's, covers by several artists, and awards (2010 "Song of the Year" Twirlie award, a 2010 “Modern Rock Recording of the Year” Wammie, and over a dozen Wammie Award nominations between 2009 and 2013 by the Washington Area Music Association). In addition to Ratts and Kern the band includes a number of accomplished and highly creative musicians: Dan Aylestock, David Purol and Brock Harris.

VWR’s self-titled debut CD was released in 2008 and followed by the EP “Side Trip” in 2009.

In August 2011 their second full length CD “Above The Blue” was released followed by a series of east coast tour dates including the BMI Songwriter’s showcase at DC’s Hard Rock CafĂ©, and the International Pop Overthrow Festival in New York City.  “Above The Blue” was critically acclaimed and was listed on multiple “Top CD’s of 2011” lists in 2012.

Recently, the band has released songs on several compilation CD’s and contributed their rendition of the Little River Band’s “Cool Change” to the 2013 tribute album “Drink A Toast To Innocence”.

Vegas With Randolph is currently finishing their third full length CD “Rings Around The Sun” and is planning a fall-2013 release.

So, how did Vegas With Randolph get their name? VWR’s Eric Kern shared this:

“VWR includes several friends who go back to high school. One of this group of friends was a charismatic character named Jon Randolph, who still lives in the Central Illinois hometown where a couple of us grew up.  At the time we were looking for band names, there was the idea of a high-school buddies get-away trip planned to Las Vegas (with Randolph).  It was likely to be quite an experience, particularly due to Randolph's colorful nature. Ultimately, the trip fell apart and never happened. How it might have gone now has become legendary in our minds and can only be speculated at - it became "the great misadventure that never was"...With this now just a legend, we immortalized the idea of the trip in our band name. To us, it continues to symbolize great, wonderful, and crazy possibilities....”

                                                                 New Music

As mentioned above, VWR has a new CD coming. Titled “Rings Around the Sun,” eager fans are anticipating the CD, judging from their Facebook comments!

If you are a fan of the band Shoes (and who isn't?!) you may know that the book Boy's Don't Lie: A History of Shoes was recently published. Written by Mary E. Donnelly, VWR is proud to announce that Mary is also writing the liner notes for Rings Around The Sun! There is certainly a lot to look forward to!

For Thom Sebastian

This poem came to me as I took my evening walk at sunset. Today would've been Thom's birthday but he passed away this past June. I've been thinking of him a lot today. This is for you, Thom:

Thom Sebastian
Was a hell of a man

His music brought immense joy
We'll certainly all miss that boy

He left his earthly life in June
His last sunset came too soon

Friends remembering his special day
All came here to have their say

Know it’s you we’re thinking of
Sending lots of thoughts and love

We’re all better for knowing that gentle man
Thom Sebastian.
